Guide to Buffalo grass

Buffalograss is one of the two native grasses grown in North America used for lawns (the other is Blue Gramagrass). It is a warm season grass that is a low maintenance choice. It grows to about 4 or 5 inches and doesn't get any taller, so you can actually not mow it at all, if you choose. It was once one of the dominant grasses of the American prairie. It spreads both by seeds and by runners. Mow Buffalograss between 2 to 3 inches, or leave it completely unmowed. Nebraska Cooperative Extension offers this excellent page about Buffalo grass.
